This series utilizes a specific alteration technique to transform personal photographs into abstract visuals. By applying a custom filter, I reshape each image, expanding light areas and deepening shadows, while also altering colors to make the original visuals unrecognizable. This process aims to create something « sacred » from the « profane », (an idea inspired by Mircea Eliade’s theories), but also to obscure the original material to preserve its secrecy. I seek to visually manifest the energies that these seemingly ordinary phone pictures hold for me, through a collection of personal hierophanies. The aesthetic choice of creating outward spikes conveys how the sacred pierces the veil of the mundane, infiltrating the familiar with the extraordinary, by tearing the surface of the photograph. This approach invites viewers to reexamine our relationship with digital artifacts that encapsulate our memories and emotions, encouraging us to attribute significance that reflects the energies we project onto these intangible items.
