This piece reimagines the ancient Slavic folklore motifs of Alkonost & Sirin - birds of joy and sorrow through 7 abstract variations. Merging avian and aquatic forms, light and dark, as signifiers of joy and sorrow, they aim to show different stages of the intertwinement of these opposite emotions within a single, unique form. The number 7, symbolic of entirety and completion in Slavic cultures, conveys the culmination of the process of fusing opposites into something more complex, yet more authentic and reflective of the human experience.
